Groton voters have some interesting choices to make in the May 18, 2010 town elections:

  • In the Board of Selectmen’s race, four candidates are vying for two seats. Voters can endorse the status quo and keep incumbents on the Board or vote in one or two replacements.
  • In the School Committee race, two seats are open because incumbents decided not to run again. Five new faces are seeking initial terms.
  • In the Board of Assessors race, one seat is open and an incumbent is being challenged for her position.
  • The Groton-Dunstable Regional School District is seeking a Proposition 2½ override to raise $931,336 to fill a budget gap created by declining state aid.  According to the district’s web site, this would increase property taxes by: “$.58 per $1,000 of home value. For a home assessed at $400,000, the impact would be $232.”
  • On election day, look for status updates during the day and results as they become available.
