Please tell me, what is the NAME of the respiratory virus that has mutated from horses? Thanks. I am a little worried because my dogs had cold noses this evening, though the house was cool.

OUR AMERICAN HERO

Thank for the beautiful story of Billy in the GDRHS 2011-2012 Crusader Hockey program. It really touched my heart. Your family must be so proud of all his awards and being such a kind person. We as a community will be honoring him on Feb. 8 during one of our home games at Groton School. He deserves so much recognition. The hockey families look forward to honoring him as a friend, soldier and a hero.

Very interesting. This is the site that Russ Harris, publisher of the Groton Herald, suggested the town consider the night the vote was taken that defeated the Sacred Heart Church property site.

I am horrified that the residents of the affected apartments were given very little assistance by the management company of the apartment complex. They were given a very short time to remove their belongings, before the apartments were to be cleaned out. The residents were told their stuff would be thrown out if they did not remove them quickly. Because this complex is low income, it is an undue burden to find storage, hire movers etc. The fire appears to be a defect in the apartment, not the fault of the residents, and yet the two most effected are looking at a real possibility of homelessness. How could this happen? People of Groton, it is up to you to help the people in your community who can't help themselves. Please reach out to Miss Dunn and the Tarter family.

Interesting Helen - since Lawrence Academy was an all-boys school from 1898 until 1971. If you are 72 years old, you wouldn't have been able to attend LA for High School. You are clearly not being honest.

We had our first GOLD meeting on Saturday. It wasn’t a proper “dialogue” as much as it was a planning meeting to think through ways of moving forward.
What happened? In a nutshell (and this is just through my lense and I hope others who attended will share their points of view)…

•	We had 11 (thought there were 13, but my old mind can only put names to 11 faces) people in attendance. Most were what we described as “the usual suspects”; i.e., people who are active in the Town, volunteer, and show up for a lot of meetings!

•	We investigated various forms of conversations that can be structured to encourage different outcomes; polite conversations for social situations, decision making conversations where outcomes are expected with winners and losers, small reflective conversations with those we respect where we suspend judgment and listen to learn, and generative dialogue where larger groups of people gather, suspend judgment and allow totally new ideas to emerge. There was a recognition that the attributes of these different styles of conversation were different, each had a purpose and usefulness, and that we shift between these types of conversations all the time and it would be impossible and counterproductive to only have one kind.

•	We talked about whether regularly setting aside a little time for the generative dialogue style would be useful and whether we could get more people to show up on an ongoing basis. I believe that people saw value in doing it, but were not convinced we could get other to join in the conversation (outside of the “usual suspects”) without a stated agenda or at least a published “topic” for each gathering. This latter point is still a question mark as we have not yet tried it.

•	We talked about where and how often we should meet. We seemed to agree that it would be a good idea to rotate the meeting space around Town as a way to encourage a wider participation, and also for participants to learn more about the different areas in greater Groton. Venues that were brought up for suggestion included: the Lost Lake Fire Station, the Senior Center in West Groton, the various public and private schools in Town and someplace near 4 corners if we can find one. We didn’t land on a frequency of meetings but all agreed to get back together in about a month for another meeting. Each person volunteered to invite at least one other to the meeting. All are welcome. We would like the next meeting to be at the Lost Lake Fire Station but I will have to wait until regular business hours to book the room and lock in a date. We agreed that a Saturday morning would be best for the next meeting.

I propose a topic for the next meeting – “The Quality of Life in Groton”. It is my hope that this will continue to be the topic for these generative dialogues for a long, long time, but we will see where the conversations take us. I hope that they will provide a vehicle for people to come and learn more about the place we live and have their voices heard in safety.
