Virginia Wooding Towse Butler, 90, of Groton, died at the Golden Living Center in Fitchburg on May 31, 2015. She was born in Arlington, Massachusetts on Dec 1, 1924, daughter of the late James and Marion Faulkner Wooding. She was the wife of the late Daniel Towse and Mark Butler Jr.

She grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts and was a graduate of the Brookline High School Class of 1943. Virginia married Daniel Towse in 1943; he died during WW II.

She married Mark Butler Jr. in 1947. She made her home in Billerica from 1948 until 1969 and then moved to Groton. She worked at J.P. Sullivan Apple Packing for 15 years and then in the kitchen at Groton School for several years.

Butler loved dancing; she danced for the USO all over the Eastern Seaboard during WW II to entertain the troops. In her later years, she taught country line dancing to senior citizens and to nursing home residents. She also enjoyed braiding rugs and sewing. She was a very patriotic Gold Star Widow.

She is survived by children Donald Butler of Fitchburg, William Butler of Pepperell, Richard Butler of Townsend, Carol Jones of Lunenburg, and Diane Butler of Lowell; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late David Butler and the sister of the late James Wooding, William Wooding, Leonard Wooding, and Esther Ingersoll.

Funeral services will be held at the Badger Funeral Home, 45 School Street, Groton, on Thursday June 4, 2015 at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be from 9-11 a.m., before the service.
