May 122014

The 3rd Annual Sargisson Beach Cleanup day is scheduled for Saturday, May 17th, from 8 a.m. until noon this year.

Sargisson Beach will be opening in 2014 again as a “swim at your own risk,” beach without lifeguards. According to Andrew Davis, organizer of the clean up, “We want to continue with improving and making the beach as safe as possible! There’s a number of projects we need your help with to get it ready! Come on down and meet your fellow neighbors and residents of Groton and contribute to the beautification of a local summer staple.”

Activities the group is planning include:

  • Beach cleanup, raking leaves and pine needles and deposit in the weed harvester trailer
  • Installing new information board in the parking lot and beach area. Installing new signage
  • Trimming back dead branches along the road and paths
  • Raking wood chips and cleaning out waterbar drains
  • Trash pickup in a few areas and along the road
  • Installing swim rope and new swim area/no-wake zone buoys
