A Trondlin from the Frederick Collection

A Trondlin from the Frederick Collection

Who knew that there is a world-class collection of antique pianos just 23 miles from here? You can learn about the Frederick Collection of Period Grand Pianos at a free presentation by Patricia Frederick, co-founder of the Frederick Collection, at Second Hand Prose Books on Tuesday April 22nd at 7:00 p.m.

The Collection hosts 24 pianos crafted from 1795 to 1928, with a dozen more in the work of repair and restoration. All of them are playable, and regularly played, in tours of the collection and in public concerts. There is no comparable collection of period, playing grand pianos in the United States. Come hear about the pianos, the work of the Historical Piano Study Center, and the composers from Hayden, through the Romantics, to Debussey and Ravel, who knew instruments like these and composed for the piano’s particular tonal qualities.
