Dar Williams in concert at LA 02/10

Dar Williams is a visiting scholar at Lawrence Academy and performs in concert 02/10

Lawrence Academy cordially invites the public to a free concert by Dar Williams, who The New Yorker described as “one of America’s very best singer-songwriters.” The concert is Monday, February 10, 2014, at 7 p.m. in LA’s Richardson-Mees Performing Arts Center.

The New York singer/songwriter has released eight albums, published two young adult novels, and toured all over the world with musicians such as Mary Chapin Carpenter, Joan Baez, and Ani DiFranco. She blends a strong sense of social justice with wit and humor, a combination that can be found in one of her best known songs, “The Christians and the Pagans.” Check out Dar’s web site for more information and samples of her work.

Funded by Lawrence Academy’s J. William Mees Visiting Scholar Endowment Fund, Williams will be on the school’s campus for two days doing workshops on songwriting, book writing, and the creative process with students in English, history, music, and dance classes.

The visiting scholar program, established in 2010 and named for a longtime former faculty member, provides the means for Lawrence Academy students to have first-hand opportunities to learn what professionals do in their fields and how they go about being successful.
