She was born to Leroy and Catherine Boxxe DeWitt on January 1, 1945, in Pooler, Georgia. Linda graduated from Groves High School in 1963. She married Robert James Lewis on July 6 1968, and they lived together in Groton.
Linda was a day care provider from 1988 until she retired in 2013, and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her day care children. She never forgot the children’s birthdays or Christmas gifts and each day they make some small project to bring home. When the children would leave day care to enter kindergarten, she would give each child’s parents a scrapbook of their early childhood in her daycare. The scrapbook covered from the child’s first day of day care to the last day. The scrapbook contained three or four years of pictures, hand and foot prints, crawling, walking, interaction with the other children, and activities such as birthday parties, Christmas around the tree, sledding in the snow, riding bicycles, and daily walks.
Linda was an active member of Pooler First Baptist Church and later the Groton First Baptist Church.
Linda is survived by husband Robert, four children: Erica and Robert McLellan of Pepperell, MA; Brian and Kathleen Lewis of Ayer, MA; Danielle and Brian Hogan, of Manchester, NH; and Owen Lewis of Groton, MA; six grandchildren: Caleb and Taylor McLellan; Sabrina and Sawyer Lewis; Michael and Joshua Hogan; and a special step grandson, Seth Newell.
