Fire Chief Joe Bosselait told the board:
On October 9, 2013 the Fire Department responded to a report of an unresponsive male teenager at a sports field at Lawrence Academy, the day crew met Groton EMT and Lawrence Academy Head Athletic Trainer Frank Mastrangelo along with other Lawrence Academy personnel performing CPR.
Captain Susan Daly and Lieutenant Tyler Shute took over CPR with Frank, and after one round of CPR a pulse was re-established. The teenager was transported to Nashoba Hospital.
I want to acknowledge Frank, Susan, and Tyler for an outstanding job performing CPR and the quick treatment for this teenager. I would also like to thank and acknowledge these Department EMT’s who responded and assisted with the call: Tim Cunningham, Cathy Lincoln, Andrew Mahoney, Jim Mazzola, Paul McBrearty, along with medics from the Ayer Fire Department Jeremy Januskiewicz and Dave Greenwood.
The quick action of immediate and effective CPR in a very stressful situation saved this teenager’s life and I am happy to report that he has fully recovered and was released from the hospital with no apparent side effects from this medical call.
I am very proud of the response, treatment and professionalism displayed by all the Fire Department personnel who responded, there has been an outpouring of thanks from the boy’s family and positive feedback from the Lawrence Academy community.
