Lawrence Academy’s theater director, Joel Sugerman, is directing faculty, staff, and students in a reading of “8,” a play that explores the issue of marriage equality by chronicling California’s Proposition 8 trial, Perry vs. Schwarzenegger, this Thursday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m. The reading leads into a post-performance panel discussion with experts and cast members about marriage equality. The audience is invited to stay, reflect on the issues, and engage in dialogue about marriage equality.

8 was developed by the American Foundation for Equal Rights and Broadway Impact, and was written by Dustin Lance Black. The play premiered in Los Angeles with an all-star cast that included George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Martin
Sheen. It has been staged in more than 300 communities and theaters across the country. Actual court transcripts and interview voices bring to life this fundamental debate over human rights.

Thursday’s performance is free. It will be held in the Richardson-Mees Performing Arts Center on the Lawrence Academy in Groton, Massachusetts. Visit www.lacademy.edu for directions. Learn more about the play at www.8theplay.com.
