Dump truck takes out power pole, and power, in Lost Lake area
Between 20-30 homes near the intersection of Lost Lake Drive and Lone Lane were without power Wednesday afternoon and evening, after a dump truck apparently backed into a power pole and snapped it in two, bringing down electric lines around 2:20 p.m. The power pole’s guy wire wrapped around the truck, complicating repairs, Groton Electric Light Department Manager Kevin Kelly said. Lost Lake Drive, an important secondary road in that section of town remained closed at 8:30 a.m. Thursday because other utility lines were still being secured and repaired.
GELD crews reconfigured that section of the town’s power grid to minimize outages to customers, Kelly said, and managed to limit the outage to the immediate neighborhood. Power to Lone Lane homes was out from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m.
After power was restored and power lines secured, other utility companies needed access to the intersection to repair telephone and television cables. Repairs continued through Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.
