The Groton School Gammons Concert Series continues Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. with a free concert featuring the music of “the Father of Jazz Guitar,” Eddie Lang. Eric Baldwin and Jamie Dunphy on guitar, Joe Kessler on violin, and Justin Meyer on bass, will present Lang’s music. Born Salvatore Massaro, Lang began performing professionally at age 16, in 1918. He played with every important jazz performer of the period, from Louis Armstrong to Billie Holiday to Bing Crosby before he died in 1933. He had a profound influence on the music of Django Reinhardt.
The concert will be held in the Edward B. Gammons Recital Hall in Groton School’s historic, gold-domed Schoolhouse at 282 Farmers Row, Groton.
