Groton Police Sergeant Jason Goodwin, seriously injured when his police cruiser crashed into a utility pole on Main Street in Groton Center on September 4, has been released from Massachusetts General Hospital and is resting at home.

Police Lieutenant Jim Cullen said that Goodwin suffered head injuries and 10 broken ribs in the crash but is expected to make a full recovery. “We’re looking forward to having him back,” he said. Goodwin is a 15-year veteran of the Groton department.

Goodwin was travelling south on Main Street about 1:00 a.m., pursuing a speeding car estimated to be travelling about 60 miles per hour, when he lost control of the cruiser and the crash occurred.

Cullen is one of the department’s accident reconstruction specialists; he explained that the reconstruction and investigation was continuing, and that the process was likely to take several more weeks.
