Five Groton residents were appointed to the Local Cultural Council by the Board of Selectmen at their Monday July 1 evening meeting. Monica Hinojos, Mary Athey Jennings, Dina Mordeno, Susan R. Schulman, and Ann G. Wilson filled three open slots and two expiring terms on the 10-member panel. Lili Ott is the chairperson of the committee.
The Groton Council is an affiliate of the The Massachusetts Cultural Council, the body responsible for processing applicaiotns for funds from arts and cultural organizations, and for distributing the funds. According to the group’s web site, this year, Groton was awarded $3,870, including a $200 grant to the Groton-Dunstable Regional School District to pya for a field trip to the Actors’ Shakespeare Project.
The Nashua River Watershed Association in Groton was awarded $6,600 as part of the Council’s Cultural Investment Portfolio program.
Several years ago, in 2011, the Cultural Facilities Fund awarded the Groton Historical Society $79,000 to increase the energy efficiency of the Boutwell House by installing new windows and doors and converting from oil to natural gas heat. The work also includes the installation of a new fire suppression system and foundation repairs.
