KENNEBUNKPORT, ME — Ralph E. Gray, 83, of Kennebunkport, Maine, a long-term resident of Groton, Massachusetts, died Wednesday afternoon, June 19, 2013 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. He was born in Littleton, Massachusetts on November 22, 1929, a son of Victor and Anna Tulson Gray. He was the widower of Constance Sheedy Gray.
He was president of the Groton Leather Board Company. An accomplished woodworker, he taught woodworking at Lawrence Academy for several years. His favorite woods for building furniture were cherry and curly maple. He cherished the many golden retrievers he had over his lifetime, Heidi being his last.
A long time resident of Groton, Massachusetts, he and his wife retired to their summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine where he continued his hobby of woodworking vy making custom pieces of furniture. An active and avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed his vegetable gardens, hiking, bicycling, skiing, birding, berry picking and fly fishing; his favorite spot was Lake Namacanta in northern Maine.
Eugene was predeceased by his wife Constance, a brother, Willis Gray, and will be missed by many in the community. Survivors include three sons, Peter Lawrence Gray of Kennebunkport ME, Winthrop Sheedy Gray of Kennebunkport ME, Eugene Ralph Gray, Jr., of Conway NH; his daughter, Louise Ann Gray Spiczka of Groton MA; a brother, Laurie Gray; and four grandchildren; Chad, Hunter, Elsie and Emma.
A period of visitation will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, Maine. Family flowers only, please.
