About 40 adults and a few kids and dogs attended Groton’s Arbor Day festivities on Sawyer Common Sunday May 19, organized by the Friends of the Trees and the Groton Garden Club. This was the 18th annual ceremony, and the 18th year Groton has earned the honor of being a “Tree City.”

A highlight of the event was a the group’s rousing rendition of Woodie Guthrie’s classic “This Land Is Your Land,” as a Groton DPW crew installed this year’s tree — a magnolia that replaces a tree destroyed by the Halloween Blizzard of 2011.
