The Groton Board of Selectmen firmed up dates for Spring Town Meeting and made a change in town polling places for the April 30 combined Town Election and US Senate primary election.
The BoS voted earlier this month to combine the annual Town Election with the Special State Primary for US Senator, and hold both on Tuesday April 30, 2013 to facilitate voter participation. Members made another change to the combined election during its Monday evening meeting this week, moving the polls for Precincts 2 and 3 from the Middle School North building to the Prescott School building at 145 Main St. The polling place will be in the building’s gym, which has good handicapped accessibility, Town Clerk Michael Bouchard said. Precinct 1 will continue to vote at the Groton Senior Center at 163 West Main St. (Scroll down to see a precinct map, or click here to view or download.)
Spring Town Meeting Changes and Timeline
Because of the changed election date, the BoS also moved the Spring Annual Town Meeting to Monday, April 22. The follow-on dates for the town meeting are Tuesday, April 23, and if needed, Monday, April 29.
According to an e-mail from Town Manager Mark Haddad, “Due to this change, the (Spring TM) Warrant will close at the close of business on Friday, February 22, 2013. All articles should be submitted in writing to the Board of Selectmen as soon as possible to allow for as much time as possible for legal and financial review.
