Berta Ericsson
She said Thursday morning, “It was not an easy moment; I’m still trying to work things out. My intention is that I won’t be there beyond the day of the election, certainly.”
There are two years remaining in her third three-year term. This spring’s Town Election will be held April 30. Erickson’s resignation is likely to open a third slot on the ballot. Incumbents John Giger and Leslie Lathrop have pulled nomination papers from the town clerk’s office, signalling their intention to run for another term. In the meeting on Wednesday, Erickson expressed her hope that many capable candidates will step up to fill her seat, noting that the deadline to pull nomination papers is March 8, 2013.
Town Clerk Michael Bouchard was in meetings this morning, and unavailable to comment on the exact procedure to fill Erickson’s seat.
Ericson is also a member of the town’s Scholarship Committee, Town Meeting Review Study Committee, and the Prescott School Redevelopment Committee. She said her membership on those boards will continue “I’d like to continue to serve.”

Thank you, Berta, for your many years of dedicated volunteering for our schools. Perhaps only those who have served on the committee can really appreciate all the hours and efforts that have been required of you. Best wishes to you as you rearrange all the hours in your day once again!
Thank you for all the care and so much time you generously gave, Berta!

I had the pleasure of serving on the school committee with Berta. She provided a thoughtful and balance view, wanting to do the best possible for our students while remaining aware of the community and the taxpayers.
Whenever I found myself on the other side of an issue from Berta, I felt it was worth reassessing to see if I’d missed something.
Berta, a school committee doesn’t always get to have a member who can bring to it what you did. Hopefully we will find another, but I doubt it. You will be missed.
Thanks for giving all your time and effort.
