Ixtapa Mexican Restaurant & Cantina is opening its restaurant doors very soon in Groton, Massachusetts, says Cindy Degrange, spokesperson for Ixtapa. Facebook fans have been hyped up and full of guesses for the past month about when Ixtapa”s opening will take place. The answer? The old Oliver”s Grille & Pub on Boston Road (Rt. 119) across from Shaw’s Plaza, at the beginning of March.

The interior of the restaurant has been redone, Degrange said, opening up the interior space and adding archways. The new configuration accommodates up to 92 people in the dining room. The new bar and lounge area will hold 20-30 people. Initial hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the restaurant Sunday through Thursday, and 11:00 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The lounge will remain open until 1:00 a.m.

When the restaurant chain announced its Groton opening in November, it was originally planned for the first of 2013. According to an email from Groton Selectman Peter Cunningham on Talk About Groton, the town email list, the delay resulted from a bureaucratic mixup with the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission that State Representative Sheila Harrington (R-Groton) helped straighten out. The Board of Selectmen granted Ixtapa’s application for a liquor license in November, 2012.

“This is the fourth Ixtapa Mexican Restaurant & Cantina to open in Massachusetts and we”re very excited about it,” Eric Brambila, manager for the new Groton location, said. “Our Facebook fans and existing patrons have been buzzing for months and can”t wait for the grand opening!” The other Ixtapa Mexican Restaurants & Cantinas are in Lunenburg, Lexington, and Woburn.

The Ixtapa Mexican family restaurants offer authentic Mexican dishes straight from old family recipes from the Guadalajara, Mexico region. “Our Groton location will continue the traditions Ixtapa is known for… a cultural and cheerful atmosphere, a diverse menu of authentic Mexican foods fully prepared in-house, and a full bar,” Brambila said. The bar at the Groton location will feature at least four large-screen televisions for sports and entertainment.

Degrange said that the restaurant is accepting applications at its Lunenberg location for positions in Groton, but she did not have details on the number of people to be hired or the available positions.
