Parent’s Weekend draws 600+ to Groton School campus. Groton School photo.
Mote than 600 parents of Groton students are expected on the Farmers Row campus campus from Friday through Sunday. According to the announcement on the prep school’s web site, they’re in town “… to reunite with their children, meet with teachers and advisors, and celebrate Parents Weekend.
Groton parents came from all over the United States and from a variety of countries, including Japan, Peru, Singapore, Korea, and England. Besides relaxing with their children and meeting their children’s friends, parents listened to a moving talk by Headmaster Rick Commons, watched athletic competitions, glimpsed a rehearsal of the upcoming fall play, and attended a concert featuring Groton’s musical ensembles.
Parents also became better acquainted with their children’s teachers and advisors through prearranged conferences; nearly 2,400 conferences were scheduled during the weekend. A bonus to the many planned events was Saturday’s beautiful, warm weather and the backdrop of brilliant fall foliage. Many visitors walked in the woods with their children or sat and admired the colors framing the mountainous view to the west of Groton’s campus.”
