Selectman Jack Petropoulos adds, by email: For all of those who contributed to, or took interest in the discussions on this Board around the issue of Town Meeting format, please attend (or at the very least watch) the Board of Selectman's meeting next Monday. The discussion of the issue should shed light on many of the suggestions that were made here. Many are impractical, some just not legally possible and others are absolutely possible. Many will be discussed on Monday. There is also a call for volunteers for a Committee to work on this issue. With all of the concern expressed here it is interesting that there are only 2 volunteers so far. Please consider volunteering. Committee scheduling is flexible so many of the time limitations discussed in the course of the dialogue are avoidable as the Committee does its work. The Board of Selectmen is planning to talk about whether the venerable Town Meeting needs refreshing or updating next week. “Discuss Appointing Town Meeting Review Committee” is an agenda item slated to come up in the regular BoS meeting on Monday, October 22 about 7:45 p.m. (the meeting begins at 7:00).
“It’s our first meeting on the subject,” Chairman Stuart Schulman wrote in an email. “Two people have expressed an interest (in serving on a committee), not enough to form a committee. So I suspect it will be determining whether there is sufficient interest in starting such a committee.”
Schulman detailed some of the “Improve Town Meeting” ideas that have floated toward Town Hall in a Letter To The Editor that ran several weeks ago.
