The Groton Historical Society will sponsor a tour of the soapstone quarry off Common Street in Groton on Sunday, October 14, at 2:00 p.m. Archeologist Marty Dudek will once again share his knowledge of area archeology. He will lead a walking tour through the site of the Groton Soapstone Quarry. This area was actively mined from 1828 through 1868. Although the mill building is now gone, Mr. Dudek will explain the various features of the quarry and former mill buildings. He will discuss examples of products made from the soapstone, including sinks, stoves, bed warmers, and ink wells.

Parking is available at the Nashua River Rail Trail parking lot. This walk will be about ¼ mile over trails through the woods, so wear sturdy footwear and mosquito protection. Refreshments will be served following the walk and participants will have an opportunity to discuss further details with Mr. Dudek and members of the Groton Historical Society.

This program is free and open to the public by a grant from the Commissioners of Groton Trust Funds.
