3Rivers Arts Youth Theatre will present The Pied Piper, an original musical by Edie Tompkins based on the classic poem by Robert Browning, at the Richardson Mees Performing Arts Center, Lawrence Academy, November 17 and 18.

Online registration is now open, or register in person at the Union Congregational Church (UCC) located at 220 Main Street on Aug 29 and 30 from 3-5 p.m. Participation fee is $300 per child, or $250 per child for two-or-more children per family. Fees are due upon registration.

There are no auditions – the co-directors choose the cast from those who register and can faithfully commit to rehearsals. Rehearsals begin September 5 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. and continue each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until production week.

“The Pied Piper,” will be performed by the 3Rivers Jr. Company ages 7-11 and co-directed by Edie Tompkins and Bonnie Marchesani. This production requires a large cast of 35 children with at least 12 parts specifically for boys.

The story takes place in the town of Hamelin, which suffers from a terrible infestation of rats. Much to the frustration of the townspeople, the inept Mayor and his equally useless town council are unable to cope with the problem. The Pied Piper comes on the scene and promises to eradicate the rodents for a fee. The Mayor agrees. The Piper does his work. When the time comes to pay up, the Mayor and his councilmen refuse. A disaster ensues!

There will be three performances at Lawrence Academy’s Richardson-Mees Performing Arts center Nov. 17 and 18.
