
David Arthur French, Sr.
David Arthur French, Sr. of Groton, MA, died Friday, August 17, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann Marie Weinel French for 51 years. He was born in Bristol, CT of the late Arthur W. and Florence H. Pease French. He was predeceased by his sister Helen French Ryder.
He is survived by his children Ann Celine French; David and his wife Mary Jo Canty French; Carolyn and her husband John Alzapiedi; John and his wife Julie Pappalardo French; Paul and his wife Lara Alterisio French; and Kathy and her husband Tom Olson. He constantly surrounded himself with his loving grandchildren Cecelia and Matthew French, Nicole and Heather Alzapiedi, Madeline and Erin French, and Olivia and Anna Olson.
David graduated from the University of New Hampshire. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1954-1957 and traveled throughout Europe. He worked as a mechanical engineer in Burlington, MA at RCA Corporation and retired from General Electric in 1993.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, music, woodworking, furniture building, reading, drawing, painting, and eating ice cream. His fondest memories were of spending vacations with his family in locations such as Vermont, Maine, and Nantucket. David also enjoyed camping, boating and exploring the waters of Boston Harbor, the North Shore, and the South Shore.
He was an active member of the Catholic community and the RCA Retirees’ Club, a troop leader in the Boy Scouts of America, and a CCD confirmation teacher for many years. Visiting hours at the Badger Funeral Home, 45 School St., Groton will be Thursday August 23 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. James Church, 13 St. James Avenue, West Groton, on Friday August 24 at 10:00 a.m.
