We received special access passes and entered Olympic Park at about 1:00 p.m. GMT. We did two performances at the base of the Orbit! Hundreds of people stopped in waves to listen.
The kids were awestruck and it was quite an experience. We were escorted through the gates and park. Mrs. McQuade even got us to the front of the queue for the Olympic Megastore with them.
There were people from around the world listening and we took tons of pictures (I personally have topped 1000 on my camera) and video. The kids had about 1.5 hrs of free time in the park (I think most of it spent buying items only available in Olympic Venues or in the world’s largest McDonalds!!!).
The last song of the 2nd set was quite emotional for all but the seniors were particularly struck with the finality of it… the trip, high school, chamber… Tears were flowing!
Oh, and by the way, the Canterbury Cathedral boys choir was on vacation and the verger said Groton’s Chamber sounded so good he suggested we come back next year to cover for them!
We waved goodbye to the Tower Bridge, heading for dinner near Picadilly Circus and back to the hotel to pack!
