Traffic dodges around National Grid construction on Main Street
After almost two months of traffic delays on Main Street as National Grid crews replace a long length of gas main, the project work is about half done but the schedule has slipped a bit from the originally scheduled completion date in the end of August.
According to Charlotte McCormack, spokesperson for the utility, “The main replacement work is indeed 50% done, but the project is 1/3 done. After the main replacement is complete, our crews have to continue working to repave the trench they dug for the new main with 12″ of permanent pavement, as required by the state. I don’t have a solid date for total completion, but I’m told the main replacement is scheduled for completion in September, with the subsequent paving work completed in the October timeframe.”
