Shirley, MA — Gilbert (Gil) Anthony Dupre, 80, of Shirley, passed away on the morning of February 14, 2012. He served for more than 25 years as an EMT in the Town of Groton Emergency Medical and Rescue Services.
Born in Shirley, MA on May 23, 1931, the second son of the late John Raymond Dupre and Mary A. Boss, Gil graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1949 and received a BS in Electromechanical Engineering from Lowell Tech (now UMASS Lowell). His career in engineering was spent working at Bolton Emerson, Lawrence, MA; Avery Dennison, Framingham, MA; and Batesville Casket, Nashua, NH.
Gil earned the rank of Major in the MA Army National Guard while serving for 16 years. His most memorable active service call was for the Worcester, MA tornado in the 1950′s. He was an active volunteer, giving more than 50 years to the Boy Scouts of America Nashua Valley Council, which awarded him the Silver Beaver Award. He served as Scoutmaster, Committee Chairman, and Life Skills Coach for BSA Troop 1 in W. Groton, MA, and conducted adult leadership training and cold weather Sno Bowl training sessions.
Gil is survived by his best friend and companion, Janet M. Shea and her daughter, Linda. Lovingly survived by his brothers, John R. of Lunenburg, MA; Kevin F. of Las Vegas, NV; Peter B. of Florida; Reginald E. of Encinitas, CA; sisters, Rita Pfennenstiel of Merrimack NH and Teresa Briggs of Pepperell, MA; and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. His ‘adopted’ son, Daniel P. Shea, and sister Mary Iona Ordway, predeceased him.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Shaker Road, Shirley, MA at 11:00 a.m.
Family and friends are sincerely grateful to the staff of Nashoba Valley Medical Center, Apple Valley Nursing Home, and RiverCourt Residences of West Groton for the loving care given to him during his final days here with us. Gil was a true, faithful and honest friend and is dearly missed.Related
