According to a press release from the Groton Fire Department, the 2012 burning season begins January 15th and ends May 1st. Hours for burning are from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Permit holders must call the Fire Department non-emergency number, 978-448-6037, after 9 a.m. for authorization each day you plan to burn.
Permits are available at the Public Safety Building at 99 Pleasant Street, between 9 a.m. -4 p.m. Mon-Fri and 9 a.m. -1 p.m. on Saturdays. Permits are still $10.00.
The Groton Fire Department asks that everyone be particularly careful this year, due to the current dry weather conditions and no snow cover. We are anticipating a busy season as residents continue to clean up last year’s storm damage. Please use common sense; keep the fire area a minimum of 75 feet from all dwellings, have a water supply available along with shovels or rakes to help control the fire, don’t attempt to burn more than you feel you can comfortably handle, and have someone attend to the fire at all times until it is extinguished.
Be extra careful. Be safe. If your fire gets out of control, call 911 immediately.
