Groton Women's Club members prep pies for Grotonfest

The Groton’s Woman’s Club will be selling a wide variety of homemade pies at Grotonfest this Saturday. All the proceeds go to the Club’s quilting project that makes quilts for wounded service men recuperating in a hospital in Germany. Pies are $2.50 a slice, or a la mode for $3.00. Strawberry Sundays will also be available at $3.00. We hope to see you at our table!

Recipe: Groton Women’s Club Blueberry Pie

Summary: A delicious, and simple, classic blueberry pie recipe. If you don’t want to make your own, you can sample it at Grotonfest!

Ingredients

  • Two pie crusts (1 recipe)
  • 4 cups of blueberries
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • Generous cup sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon butter

Instructions

  1. Stir the blueberries, cinnamon, sugar, flour and melted butter together.
  2. Pour into bottom crust.
  3. Put on the top crust, crimp on edges, and either cut several slits in the top or poke with the tines of a dinner fork to allow steam to escape.
  4. Sprinkle the top crust with a little sugar.
  5. Bake 10 minutes at 450° then reduce the oven to 350° and continue baking for
  6. 45-50 minutes.
