GROTON — Jane Peterson died August 7, 2011 at Massachusetts General Hospital from complications related to a recent illness. She was 69.
Jane was born in New York City to Dorothy and Franklin LePeyre. She spent her early years living in Stonington, CT and later moved to Norwich, CT. Jane graduated from Bradford Junior College and obtained a Bachelorâ€™s degree in home economics from the University of Connecticut.
She met Dean Peterson in Cambridge, MA and the two were married in 1971. They moved to Acton, MA where they had their daughter, Elizabeth, in 1976. The family moved to Ann Arbor, MI, then Andover, MA, and finally to Groton, where she and Dean have lived for the past sixteen years.
She was a dedicated homemaker, but also worked part time over the years as a secretary, and most recently was an Office Assistant for the Town of Groton. Always active in her community, Jane was a member of the Groton Garden Club, the Friends of the Trees, and the Groton Reading Club.
Jane loved nature and was particularly happy being near the ocean, walking the beach and watching the waves and wildlife. Walking through the woods and observing the plants and wildlife was a daily adventure for her. She was an avid gardener, and thoroughly enjoyed sewing and quilting.
She is survived by her husband Dean, daughter Elizabeth, and brother Stanton.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 11 from 2-4 p.m. at the Badger Funeral Home in Groton. Friends are also invited to her home, for an informal gathering, following.
